Career Pathways Established for students @ Waroona District High School
During March, staff from Peel Employment Direction Network have been working closely with year 10 students from Waroona District High School to establish their Career pathways.
Small groups of students, teachers and Chaplin visited EDN Mandurah based branch to discuss what services and resources are available to assist them with their career exploration. Students completed the Career Builder & Action Plan program to provide them with the resourceful knowledge required for attaining future career goals. The Apprenticeship & Traineeship workshop was also incorporated to inform students of pathways taken to attain them, and to also make them aware of the national trade shortage.
Students were visited at their school for group and also 1 on 1 Career Guidance. This proved to be a most useful exercise to reinforce strategies and techniques for Career exploration from the students visit to the Peel EDN facility. Brooke Vantwist a student at the school would now like to become a Personal Trainer said,” I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to do before, and now I have a Career Goal.” Esta Ierance also a student at WDHS had this to say,” Since I attended EDN Mandurah’s Apprenticeship and Traineeship workshop and completed the Career Builder Program it has motivated me to investigate possible future Career Pathways.”
EDN displays have also been erected at the Waroona Recreation & Aquatic Centre and also the Waroona Resource and Health Centre for the convenience of members of the community. A Parents as Career Partners workshop will also be conducted to assist parents with information they may require to support their children with the transition period. Now students at WDHS have a fantastic support network including, parents, school, community and Peel EDN staff they will have the best opportunity to make their dream career goals become reality.
